Ted Wilson, PhD

Principle Investigator

Edward (Ted) Wilson is Instructor in the Department of Neurology & Neurological Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Ted received his PhD in Neuroscience from McGill University in the laboratory of Prof. Claudio Cuello. He completed post-doctoral training at Stanford University in the laboratory of Prof. Katrin Andreasson. As a neurobiologist, Ted’s main research interests surround understanding the cellular biology underlying Alzheimer’s disease. He is also passionate about developing accessible and scalable biomarkers for clinical translation.

Justin Mendiola

Lab Manager

Justin Mendiola received his bachelor’s of science degree in Biological Sciences from California State University, Fullerton in 2023. He was then selected to participate as a California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Research Scholar. He has completed research in the laboratory of Prof. Vittorio Sebastiano, at Stanford’s Institute for Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine. In the lab, Justin’s research is focused on determining rates of various biomarker changes in Alzheimer’s disease and developing cutting edge diagnostic assays. Outside the lab, Justin enjoys cooking and exploring the San Francisco Bay Area.

G Kumar

Life Science Research Professional

G Kumar received their bachelor's degree of science in neuroscience at CU Boulder, and worked as a Research Assistant at the ABCD study, researching adolescent development, substance use, and mental health. G is passionate about research in neurodegeneration and ]has worked as a REACH PostBac Scholar over the past year on a Parkinson's disease gene therapy. Currently, G is contributing to Alzheimer's disease blood biomarker research in the Wilson lab. Outside of work, G enjoys being outside with animals, rock climbing, and music.

Bella Russo

Research Assistant

Bella Russo is a senior at Stanford University. She is majoring in Biology with a concentration in neuroscience, and also earning a minor in Spanish. She has been working in the Wilson lab since October 2024, and was supported by the NeURO program at Stanford during Summer 2025. Bella's research is focused on assessing the validity of presynaptic protein complexin-2 as a blood biomarker sensitive to Alzheimer's disease progression. Outside of the lab, Bella competes for the Stanford Polo team and Stanford Equestrian team, and also serves as a Residential Advisor for Pi Beta Phi.

Rafael Vazquez Jr photo_edited_edited.jpg

Rafael Vasquez Jr.

Research Assistant

Rafael Vazquez Jr. is a Junior at De Anza College majoring in Biochemistry  was a 2024 Stanford Neuro-CC Fellow supported by the Stanford Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute. At De Anza College, Rafael is involved in the chemistry and math clubs, is a math tutor and TA, and is involved in the MESA and MPS (Math Performance Success) programs. Rafael is interested in mathematically modeling homeostatic balance in Alzheimer’s disease biomarker trajectories to leverage biomarker changes to improve disease diagnosis and prognostication. In his free time, Rafael enjoys making music, spending time with friends, and playing video games.

Michael Brown

Research Assistant

Michael Brown is a student-athlete at University of California, San Diego, pursuing a bachelor's in Bioinformatics and a minor in Cognitive Science/ML. His research project in the lab is focused on correlating blood and CSF proteomics data with Alzheimer's disease blood biomarkers. In his spare time, Michael’s hobbies include reading, cycling, traveling, cooking and an occasional scuba dive. A fun fact is that he is a dual citizen, holding both USA and New Zealand passports.
